Iunisi Tovo, Pastor

Marybeth Hull, Administrative Assistant

The current church is located on the second site, but is the third building. This property was donated to the Untied Methodist Church by a female doctor who had first used the site to house and aid unwed mothers and other women in trouble. The second incarnation of the church building was a tall white clapboard, high-steepled church. Read More…

Welcome Pastor Iunisi!

We are very happy to announce the confirmation of our new pastor, Iunisi Tovo. If you were lucky enough to join us for our November 1 worship service, you will have already met her… as well as several of her friends who joined our communion celebration with their own sacred music.

A little background: Pastor Iunisi was born on the island of Tonga in the South Pacific. The 4th of eight children, she felt inspired from an early age by her parents who were both ministers in the Wesleyan churches of Tonga. She attended college and worked as a civil servant in Tonga before moving to San Carlos, in California, to begin what would be many years of dedicated service to the Falehufanga First Tongan United Methodist Church there. In addition, Pastor Iunisi has two adult children: her son, Michael, works out of state and her daughter, Finau, works for the College of San Mateo.

During the last 20 years, she has served a variety of capacities including Sunday school teacher and Sunday school Superintendent. She was also a youth and young adult director for over ten years, and has been very active in the UMW (United Methodist Women) as Vice President for the Golden Gate District UMW, Spiritual Coordinator for the El Camino District and the Cal-Nevada Conference Director for Lay Servant Ministries.

Iunisi has completed her certificate in Ministry Studies from California Berkeley Pacific School of Religion, and is a certified Lay Ministry graduate. She will be continuing her education at the Claremont School of Theology, while acting as our pastor.

We were struck by her warmth, wisdom and her extensive work history of helping lay people find expression for their faith and support for their concerns. We hope you will take the time to introduce yourself to her in the upcoming weeks – she is eager to meet each of you! If you would like to arrange a consultation with her, please contact the church office for an appointment at 823-5841.
