Iunisi Tovo, Pastor

Pastor Iunisi is in her fifth year at SebUMC!
We are so pleased that Pastor Iunisi Tovo continues to lead our congregation in 2019-2020. Recently reconfirmed to begin her fifth year at Sebastopol UMC, Pastor Iunisi brings her energy and ideas, and those of our congregants, to fruition via the process of “claity” — clergy and laity working closely together for the good of all. Youth programs are getting her full support, and we are happy to see more of our young members and their friends becoming involved in church programs and events. Philosophical and religious study groups are also on the increase, engaging participants through thoughtful reading and discourse.

PASTOR IUNISI TOVO — a little background:
Pastor Iunisi was born on the island of Tonga in the South Pacific. The fourth of seven children, she felt inspired from an early age by her parents. Her father was a minister in the Free Wesleyan Church in Tonga, the equivalent of the United Methodist Church. She attended college and worked as a civil servant in Tonga before moving to San Carlos, California, to begin what would be many years of dedicated service to the Falehufanga First Tongan United Methodist Church there. In addition, Pastor Iunisi has two adult children — son Michael works out of state; daughter Finausina (“Finau”) works for the College of San Mateo.

During the last 20 years, Pastor Iunisi has served in a variety of capacities, including Sunday school teacher and Sunday school Superintendent. She was also a youth and young adult director for more than ten years, and has been very active in the UMW (United Methodist Women) as Vice President for the Golden Gate District UMW, Spiritual Coordinator for the El Camino District, and as California-Nevada Conference Director for Lay Servant Ministries. Every year, Pastor Iunisi adds to her list of involvements and accomplishments, all undertaken to enhance church life for her church’s members.

Iunisi has completed her certificate in Ministry Studies from California Berkeley Pacific School of Religion, and is a certified Lay Ministry graduate. She continues her education at the Claremont School of Theology while serving as our pastor. After receiving her pastoral licensure in 2013, Pastor Iunisi has completed five years’ Course of Study (2014-2018).

Pastor Iunisi’s warmth, wisdom, and experience help lay people to find expression for their faith and support for their concerns. We hope you will visit SebUMC for Sunday 10:30 worship, and stay for our post-service Fellowship Hour!

If you would like to arrange a consultation with Pastor Iunisi, please contact the church office for an appointment — 707-823-7971.
